A flexible alternative to traditional pool surfaces

When this pool was originally built,  no expense was spared on the finish, with the owners investing more than $65,000 on brightly coloured glass mosaic tiles.  Unfortunately though, within just a few months, the pool began to leak. The pool was quickly repaired, but a few months later, it leaked again. As each leak was repaired, a new one would appear, and within 12 months the pool had cracked in several places, dropped in one corner, and needed a complete overhaul!

Aqualux Tolerates Ground Movement

Something was wrong – and it wasn’t faulty workmanship. It was eventually determined that ground movement was the culprit. And because ground movement is something that can’t be controlled, the owners needed to find a flexible surface finish – something that could absorb future movement without cracking.

An Aqualux pool finish can stretch up to 200% before tearing, with no risk of cracking or flaking  – which made it the perfect solution for this pool.

The Lazy Man’s Pool Interior

With this particular pool, since the pool needed a full renovation anyway, the owners decided to take the opportunity to make a few other changes to reduce maintenance requirements for their pool area. The spa area was filled in, astro-turfed and repurposed as a poolside entertainment area, with artificial plants used throughout the landscaping.
The pool’s tiled finish was able to be left in place, and was simply rendered over to remove grout lines and ensure a smooth surface. The corners of the pool were also reshaped from the original sharp corners to a smooth curve to make them more accessible to their robotic cleaner. (The robotic cleaner not being able to get into the corners had been a real bugbear for them).

With Aqualux already being the lowest maintenance pool finish available, these extra few changes have made it even more so. It’s no wonder some installers call it the ‘lazy man’s pool finish!’

3D Measuring System for a Perfect Fit

Once the pool shell was prepared, the pool was measured and patterned using ABGAL’s unique 3D system, and the owners chose an Aqualux interior in ‘Antique’ – which turns from almost black to a deep, vivid blue – depending on light conditions and pool surrounds.
A new Aqualux pool finish can be crafted to fit within as little as 5-10 days, with most conversions taking only two to three weeks from initial quote to customer hand over.
